Zaculeu
Zaculeu is a Maya archaeological site in the highlands of Guatemala. Other ancient sites in this region include Takalik Abaj, Kaminaljuyú, Iximché, Mixco Viejo, Utatlán, and El Portón. Zaculeu is located in the village of San Lorenzo, in the outskirts of Huehuetenango City. It is surrounded by the Cuchumatanes mountain range and the Seleguá river flows nearby. Zaculeu means "white earth" in the Mam, K'iche' and Q'anjob'al Mayan languages. The ancient city has 43 structures and was occupied during the period 250–600 CE. Zaculeu is still used as a ceremonial site by the surrounding Mam Maya communities.
